LOOKING FOR DIRECTION?

"
Classroom Teacher
as Theater Director"

Or... I have to put on a play?!

Rip Van Washington or The Legend Of Sleepy Irving
by January M. Akselrad

Target Grades: 4th and 5th
Genre: American History, Literature
Cast: 17+
Time: 45-50 Minutes

Music: None

Summary:

In 1835, noted author Washington Irving purchased land on the banks of the Hudson River and built “Sunnyside”, his New York home.  Act 1 of the play allows students to portray real authors and characters from that time as they join Mr. Irving for an evening at his home.  In Act II, the play is a class field trip to that historic home where some of the students awaken an old man fast asleep by a tree. Is it really Mr. Irving?

Price: $9.95 (includes licensing fee)

"...Having seen many of her plays performed by students, I can definitively say that Ms. Akselrad knows of what she writes.  Her original plays are imaginative, engaging and delightful.  Following her lead, one can certainly be assured of a successful, educational and fun-filled experience!"
Dr. Miriam Westheimer,  Program Director
